Design & BIM

SFS can designed to BIM Level 2. With an emphasis on managed collaborative working in 3D design using separate models. In the case of the Valley project, we imported project models from other parties into our own project file to act as the basis for the SFS design and detailing.

As a secondary structural support system, the SFS system predominantly fixes between floor levels of the primary structure. By modelling the SFS within the constraints of the primary structural model, site-specific situations were able to be designed to from an early stage.

The SFS is set out as per the architects setting out information, which determined the wall and opening locations accordingly. To assist with co-ordination between the 3D model and site, a bespoke SFS track Revit family was created for the Valley project with offset nodes added.

While the vast majority of design coordination and development occurred within a 3Dc ollaborative environment, the eventual need for installation drawings for use required the additional task of producing a clear and concise set of installation drawings.

As a BIM project, the location of each specific stud was required to be exact, as other parties were reliant on the SFS model for their own product setting out. This required for each individual stud to be dimensioned from a datum, to allow the SFS installation teams to place each stud in the required location. With the nodes within the SFS model, they are able to be used by Prisma who provide setting out and surveying support on-site. The nodes being physically marked on the projects floor

Benefits of SFS

01

Deflection

The SFS Infill Design for any project, like The Valley’s, can be designed to accommodate up to 25mm+/-25mm of deflection movement between each level/floor of the structure. Design can achieve BIM Level 3, allowing all the participants to work on the same model simultaneously which eliminates the chance of conflicting information.
02

Installation

SFS is a lightweight solution compared to wood or block work walls. This can be installed in the same method as timber such as cutting each stud to size on site to accommodate tolerance within the steel or concrete frame, thus ensuring a seamless fit at each stud location.
03

Sustainability

With the use of steel, there is also less environmental impact and a greater sense of sustainability. SFS is designed prior to arriving on site meaning there is less waste created on site.
04

Speed

Installing the SFS system is faster than traditional methods within
the construction phase, saving on programme time and costs. Also ensuring the project will be watertight earlier enabling your internal fit out to start sooner in your project programme.
05

Fire Rating

SFS, unlike timber is a non-combustible product which gives greater protection against fire. SFS is also designed and tested against many internal and external wall details, allowing for many variations of design.
06

Design

SFS can be design up to BIM Level 3.This allows for greater creativity and versatility while designing and collaborating with other trades. SFS design can be designed and changed accordingly to meet the project needs.
